The UV rays in sunlight can be harmful to the eyes. Lenses that block 100% UVA and UVB help to ward off the damaging effects of UV radiation. Transition, high index and many other lens options offer 100% UV protection. Anyone who spends time outdoors is at risk for eye problems from UV radiation. Risks of eye damage from UV and HEV exposure change from day to day and depend on a number of factors, including: Geographic location. UV levels are greater in tropical areas near the earth’s equator. The farther you are from the equator, the smaller your risk. Altitude. UV levels are greater at higher altitudes Time of day. UV and HEV levels are greater when the sun is high in the sky, typically from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Setting. UV and HEV levels are greater in wide open spaces, especially when highly reflective surfaces are present, like snow and sand.
HIGH INDEX LENSES
For stronger prescriptions that are thicker and heavier or for impact resistant features, high index lenses are the answer. High-index lenses are an ultra–thin and lightweight alternative to our standard index lenses and help to reduce the weight of the eyeglasses, while also preventing the “magnifying effect” typically caused by thicker lenses. These lenses are shatter-resistant with UVA/UVB protective coatings built in. We recommend high–index lenses for all prescriptions of +/-3.50 sphere and stronger, as well as for prescriptions with a significant correction for astigmatism.
Ask one of our highly-trained associates about the different types of high index available in your corrective RX and which best suites your wants and needs.
ANTI REFLECTION
Anti-reflective coating (also called “AR coating” or “anti-glare coating”) improves vision, reduces eye strain and makes your eyeglasses look more attractive. These benefits are due to the ability of AR coating to virtually eliminate reflections from the front and back surfaces of your eyeglass lenses. With reflections gone, more light passes through your lenses to optimize visual acuity with fewer distractions (especially at night), and the lenses look nearly invisible which enhances your appearance by drawing more attention to your eyes.
Had trouble with different coating in the past staying smudgy or scratching easy. Newer hydrophobic and oleophobic Ani Reflactive coatings are cured onto the surface of the lens for a more durable wear and keeping you seeing crystal clear.
Ask one of our highly-trained associates about all the options and features available. Also be sure to ask about Blue Blocking features for added protection.
ULTRA VIOLET PROTECTION
The UV rays in sunlight can be harmful to the eyes. Lenses that block 100% UVA and UVB help to ward off the damaging effects of UV radiation. Transition, high index and many other lens options offer 100% UV protection. Anyone who spends time outdoors is at risk for eye problems from UV radiation. Medications. Certain medications, such as tetracycline, sulfa drugs, birth control pills, diuretics and tranquilizers, can increase your body’s sensitivity to UV and HEV radiation.
Surprisingly, cloud cover doesn’t affect UV levels significantly. Your risk of UV exposure can be quite high even on hazy or overcast days. This is because UV is invisible radiation, not visible light, and can penetrate clouds.
TRANSITION LENSES
Lenses that are clear indoors and automatically adjust their level of darkness outdoors depending on the amount of light are called Transition or adaptive lenses. These lenses can be appealing to people who move between indoors and outdoors several times a day. Standard Transition lenses that adapt to light – fully clear indoors and dark outdoors. Fast fade back speed. Provides 100% UVA/UVB protection. Suitable for any age including children. XTRActive Transition- Extra dark outdoors to protect from the brightest sun, even in the hottest conditions. Darken behind the windshield of a car to protect the eyes from sunlight while driving. Hint of tint helps to protect from harsh indoor lighting. Provides 100% UVA/UVB protection. Ideal for glasses wearers who are especially sensitive to light. Transition Vantage – Transition lenses that also polarize as they darken. Outdoors, the polarization adjusts to match the level of outdoor glare, which can vary as the day progresses and conditions change. Provides 100% UVA/UVB protection. The only everyday lenses with variable polarization. Drivewear – Unique lenses sensing and reacting to varying light conditions both outside, behind the windshield and at night. From bright sunlight accompanied by intense, blinding glare, to overcast inclement conditions providing the wearer with the appropriate visual solution.
Ideal for activities involving different lighting conditions with needed high contrast.
POLARIZED LENSES
As opposed to standard UVA/UVB protective sunglasses, which simply reduce the intensity of incoming light, polarized lenses comprise stacked layers of material that deflect the sun’s rays. These layers inside the lenses effectively eliminate the glare reflected from horizontal surfaces, such as the surfaces of water or roads. This significantly improves comfort and clarity of vision, whether you are driving, fishing, skiing, or at the beach but also provide additional comfort to people with increased light sensitivity. Choosing a color Grey – Most popular sunwear color. Good for high sun and very bright situations. Does not alter colors, they remain true to their original hue. Brown or Amber – High contrast, highlights reds and greens. Filters more blue light. Excellent visual acuity and especially popular in lush, green areas Copper or Rose Blend – Cosmetically attractive tint. Good depth perception and definition in colors and objects. The preferred color for driving or variable light conditions. Highlights reds and greens Green – Enhances color. High Transmission allows the most usable sunlight and offers the greatest contrast. Ask one of our highly-trained associates to show you the different color options available to test on site at our location.

SCRATCH RESISTANCE
There’s no such thing as scratch “proof” lenses. (Even glass lenses can be scratched) Scratches, while not likely to affect your lens performance, are an annoyance that can interfere with clear vision. Many of today’s lens products have hard scratch-resistant protection built into the lens, a hard surface treatment that is specifically designed to resist scratches.
But it’s not an automatic feature, if it is not our associates will recommend the scratch resistant treatment for any type of eyewear to be sure your investment is protected properly.
