Five Tips for Halloween with Hearing Aids

What’s your favorite part of Halloween? Your grandchildren in costume? The buckets of candy? Maybe the spooky music and decorations? Halloween is a fun holiday to celebrate, but it’s also important to keep safety in mind. This is especially true when you have hearing loss or wear hearing aids. We’ve thought of some simple tips to help you get the most out of this year’s trick or treating.

Check your batteries

Before leaving the house, make sure your hearing aids are fully charged. If you don’t have rechargeable hearing aids, you may want to pack an extra pair of batteries just in case. This will ensure you’re engaged the whole time.

Plan your costume

Halloween costumes are arguably one of the best parts of this holiday, but could cause complications with your hearing aids. Be sure the think about how hats, masks, face coverings or face paint will be worn or applied. You don’t want any of these things to obstruct your hearing aids.

Consider a hearing aid clip and cord

You may want to wear a hearing aid clip and cord. There’s often a lot going on at Halloween festivities, and this will give you peace of mind that your hearing aid won’t get lost or stepped on.

Check the weather forecast

We all know that moisture can cause complications with hearing aids. Check the weather before you leave for the evening and pack an umbrella or wear a hearing aid sleeve if it looks like it may rain.

Wear hearing protection

If you’re attending a Halloween party or other festivity, pay attention to the noise level. It may be a good idea to pack ear plugs or other hearing protection if there’s loud music or large crowds.f you think that you have a hearing loss, or if you would like to have your existing hearing aids checked, call Schmidt’s Optical and Hearing™  at 772-286-4327 to schedule a free hearing evaluation with our Board Certified Hearing Aid Specialist. We hope you use these tips, and have a Happy Halloween!
